Welcome to Through the Thick and Thin!
This is a safe place. That's the first thing I want you to know about the purpose of this website. I want to be the real me here and I want YOU to be the real you. There are so many spaces that we can choose to only share the edited version of ourselves with each other but I want this space to be where we choose to be our authentic selves instead.
The second thing I want you to know is that Jesus loves you. Not the edited version. The REAL version. It is His Love and Faithfulness to me that has gotten me through the thick and thin, and I wouldn't be my authentic self if I didn't tell you that Jesus knows who are you right now and He wants to Love on you so badly. If you ever doubt that than connect with me - I would love to help you understand who He really is and how He desires to be known to you.
I hope that you'll get to know me by reading my story but to help us get more acquainted I'll tell you a bit more about me and how I got here.
I'm the daughter of two amazing people who I love very much. I have 4 siblings who I also happen to love very much (who are all married to MORE people I love very much)! My parents are pastors with the Salvation Army which meant we moved around Western Canada quite frequently. Most of the places we ended up hold special places in my heart, however, Saskatchewan has always been home.
I have been married to my wonderful husband, David, for 11 years and we have been blessed with 3 incredibly beautiful children - Beth (6), Alice (3) and Thomas (9 months). We live in Saskatoon, SK and absolutely love our city! Both David and I work in the non-profit sector, he in Affordable Housing and I in Employment and Education Training. I really love my day job - I work for the Saskatoon Food Bank & Learning Centre managing a Workplace Experience program and an Adult Literacy program.
I started this blog because I needed a way to share my story. I have had a rocky start into motherhood, with all 3 of my babies, because I experienced Postpartum Anxiety (PPA). Not just in a little way - in a monstrous way. I needed to be hospitalized with each major episode of PPA, which has wounded me in a lot of ways. Yet here I am, imperfectly mothering my babies by the Grace of God.
The Real Me:
Some of the things I am most passionate about are my faith in Jesus, my children and husband, working with marginalized individuals, learning about mental health and/or theology, sharing knowledge with my community, Reconciliation with our Indigenous people in Canada, lettering pretty words for other people to enjoy, attempting to learn watercolour, and tea. Lots and lots of tea.
Something else you'll find out about me here: I love to write - literally! What started as a simple interest in learning how to write beautifully - calligraphy and hand-lettering - 2 years ago has blossomed into something I never imaged: this blog and an opportunity to share things I love with all of you people!
